And everyone seems to forget what "insurance" is...it is the equitable transfer of the risk of a loss from one entity to another in exchange for paying a premium. If you are a low risk, you pay a low premium. If you are a high risk, you pay a higher premium. The risk is spread across the entire group of policyholders and the real reason behind the indemnification of the risk is to mitigate the cost of a catastrophic loss. It really is that simple.
What the gov't is now doing is telling the morons of this country that they can now go to their health insurance company and buy insurance for a high risk (aka "pre-existing condition") and pay a low premium for it...or, if they cannot afford it, we the taxpayers will pay for it for them instead. This will of course, over time, bankrupt all private healthcare insurers thus "requiring" the almighty and ever benelovent gov't to step in and "save us" with gov't run healthcare. At which point we can be in the same boat as Britain, Canada and the like. Perfect!
It's kinda like buying auto insurance on your car, expecting that the insurance company will pay for your oil changes and other regular maintenance, forcing the auto insurance company to sell you a policy the minute AFTER you have been in an accident or better yet, after you've already been in 10 (pre-existing condition, remember?) and if you can't afford the policy, forcing all of your neighbors to pay for YOUR policy. Yeah, this will work out real well.
How's Medicare and Social Security workin' out for ya? I believe you see those little deductions from your paychecks every time you get one. Think you will ever see any benefit for the money you are paying into those Ponzi schemes? If you think you will, you are more fucking stupid than a box of rocks. And now the gov't is going to collect taxes for their latest Ponzi scheme for 4 years BEFORE "benefits" even start being doled out. Hmmmmmmm....let me guess....in 4 years the question will be, "Where did the money go?". Oh yeah, that's right, the brainiacs in Congress spent it already on other pet projects. Welcome to U.S. civics in the 21st century....we are well on our way to becoming the next third world hell hole.
