way around a fused distro block

Tell me if this will work properly. I have a distro block that isn't fused, so instead can I just split the 4g wire throught the block, and then use fuse holders on the 8g to fuse them?? Is that basically the same thing as a fused distro block?

I got some RF distro blocks for cheap, which is why i'd rather use that, cuz it was basically free for me.

You can do that; it might look crappy, but it will work fine. If you can get away with a 60 amp or smaller fuse on the 4-gauge wire (at the battery) then you don't need to fuse the 8-gauge wires at all.

You want to fuse every time you drop in wire size. The purpose of the fuse is to protect the wire from overcurrent, and burning up. You want one fuse as close to the battery as possible, and then if you dont have a fused distro block, you NEED to fuse the 8 guage wire coming out of the distro.

If the fuse at the battery is small enough to protect an 8-gauge wire, then there is no need for additional fuses at the block.

well, I was gonna put a pretty big fuse at the battery, 100 amp or so. So when I fuse after the distro block, is it the closer the better....? how close is too close?

It needs to be less than 12 " from the battery, You can't really get it too close, unless you are some unskilled hack freak.

na, I was askin if it makes a difference wether I'm close to the distro block when I fuse my 8g wire, cuz I know its important that the 4g be fused within a certain distance from the battery....

same principal applies as at the battery.
