waverunners/jet ski's

I am trying to get my dad to buy me a wave runner(and probably pitch in too myself), and was wondering what you guys would recommend. He probably won't go out and buy the most fastest/expensive one, so basically i'm looking for the biggest bang for the buck. I already know that i want it to be a 3 seater. When i go out with my buds, i like to be out all day, and if i was standing that would get pretty tiring. I've looked at all the different company websites, and am confused with what I should look for in a jet ski.

I've learned that horse power does not always mean everything, and that a jet ski could still have low horse power, but have high RPMs for quick acceleration.

What combinations of horse power, engine size in cc's, etc. should i look for in a wave runner? It's hard to tell which ones on each company's website accelerate fast and have a fast top speed. I definitley want one that is more sport than cruise. Is there a brand which produces better products than its competitors?

-thx

For a three seater you cant go wrong with a yamaha. We have owned three over the last 10 years and havent had any problems with them. Plus they are the most bouyant and easiest to ride out of the three seaters.

As far as size go for as big as you can afford.

You looking to buy new or used?

not really sure at this point, it depends on how good of sport/speed i can get new or not. if all i can get is some slow ones for a good price, then i'll probably look into buying a used fast one. Or is this not a good idea? I really dont like to buy things used. Is there a problem with buying jet ski's used? i probably wouldnt want to buy any thing more than a few years old.

its always nice to have the power when you need it. you can always not use it if you have it, but when you need it and dont have it..it sucks.
ya, i definitely want something with fast acceleration. it seems that fast acceleration would be more important than a higher top speed. Am i correct?

No problem with buying them used but yeah I would stick to a couple years old at the most. They have changed quite a bit recently.

You have fast and you have easy to ride. Its tough to get both. But it also depends on what you consider fast.

Our last one was an 800 three seater and it got up in the mid 40s with one person.

Two seaters are a lot faster but more difficult to ride.

Also the new Hondas are pretty sweet but a little more pricey.

are you only being one 3 seater? i would think 2 2seaters would be more fun
and also more $. i'm lucky if i get my dad to help me buy 1. besides, a lot of my friends already have their own jet skis, so i could go out and ride with them

Depends on where you are going to ride it. If it isnt wide open neither really matter. I personally would rather have higher top end. But you can also adjust the trim on most of them anymore so you can have both.

my friend has one that goes up to 70 with 1 person on it (its a 3 seater yamaha like 4 or 5 years old). With me riding behind him, we can go in the high 50's. I way over 200 and so does he. Not fat at all tho

We'll be riding mostly in a river, but dont get me wrong, its got a lot of width and length. After we get out of a 8 min ride through the mangroves from his house, we get into wide open water with boats. Even though its a river, its more like a bay/ocean. There is waves, boats, and it is huge. The width of it is so wide that you cant see land on either side. There are all these little islands u can stop at and chill. There are also these narrow secret mangrove trails that we go exploring through, that cut through some of the islands. its really neat/fun.

ya i guess higher top speed is good too.

I used to have a Yamaha GP1200. It was a blast! Although I wish I could have a 3 seater now, just for a more comfortable and enjoyable ride. I sold mine since all my friends got rid of theirs. It is no fun to ride by yourself. So if your friends have some and plan on keepin'em get one. I hope you have as much fun as I did!

friends of ours had old seadoos. alot of fun. no idea what model or engine size. 3 seaters..topped out at 62 or 63. it was yellow //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Our lake had a limit of 800 ccs per personal watercraft. Private lake ftl //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

And I was incorrect it was mid -low 50s not 40s so yeah 70 would be about right for the 1200.
