i was wondering if you ran an amp that put out a lot more watts than the subs recommend, would it hurt the subs? say the subs are 400w rms and you run a mono 600w rms amp to it, is that ok?

when you push an amp too far, it starts to clip the signal and that leads to distortion and other bad things

Refer to this http://forums.caraudio.com/vb/showthread.php?t=63933 to set the gains on your amp, That will teach you how to set your gains so youre not clipping the signal.

i'm not worried about the amp, i'm worried it might be too much for the subs, they are rockfords p2 12"

if your subs can handle 400 watts, and your puttin 600 out, each is only receiving 300 therefore UNDER powering your subs, or am in thinkin u have two when u have one? and you should be worried bout the amp as that is what kills subs if it clips.

i got the specs wrong. i've got 2 rockford p2 12", 400watts total rms, my buddy gave me a jbl gto 1201, 787watts rms. 387 more watts? that can't be good....

are you able to run two 4 ohm subs off of a mono amp? or do they have to be wired for 2 ohms?
