Subs = T5 12 x2 2 ohm coils. What is your take on this ?

I will be redoing the box for the subs. I need to know if I should seriousley think about a different amp.

Burned up a set of coils already and had to recone. So I am trying to take a overview of the equipment and applications to determin what areas need to be addressed.

The car is a cavalier coupe 03, box is a slot port on side tuned to 32hz, maybe 40 sq in port area, volume is 3.25 cubes. Subs faceing rear port drivers side. Dual battery setup.

Should I try box facing forward or to the side? dependant on the size of the new box , which I and going to try for as close to 6cubes as possible tuned to 34 with about 90sq in port area. and resin the inner box with some insulation.

Let me know what you think cuz I gotta save for new amp if needed.

Short answer - yeah, I would definitely be amp shopping if I were you.

The PA's rated for 1700, but with 4x30's I'd give it 1500 optimistically at 1 ohm, and with a pair of dual 2's you're probably at 2 ohms -- 1000w, maybe less. There's nothing wrong with running subs with less than rated power, but if I had 900w subs I'd want to get something close to that to them just to see what they can do on occasion.

Hard to believe you damaged the subs with that amp. Was the gain way up? Bass Boost? Mathematically that would be hard to do.

Maybe they were just defects?

I have a Lanzar Opti1232d (pretty comparable to the T5) in 2.8 tuned to 28 in the trunk of my Contour, sub and port both facing backwards. Sub gets 1000w rms from a Zed Lanzar 1000.1D. Considering the relatively low cost of the set up I couldn't be happier.

ok. Amp shopping i will go. suggestions are welcome.

As for the burnt coils, I probly did have the gain too high because it didnt seem to pound. I probably drove it to massive clipping and scince it was in trunk facing the rear I didnt hear anything, just smelt it. The deck is a Sony with sub preout. I am looking into a nice pioneer after I get a better amp. and I am ordering another set of cones just incase I already ruined this set. I want to build a couple boxes. A single at 3 cubes tuned to 34hz, not sure about the port volume. The other I want is tuned to 28 maybe, 5 cubes might be able to fit. for two subs. I am still thinking about the design. I may have to cut some rear deck supports in order to fit the box in from the cab, because it wont fit through the trunk openning.

You shouldn't have too much trouble getting $100 or so out of the PA. Maybe $150+ to someone who's not that well informed on amps.

Lanzar opti2000d comes to mind if you're trying to keep it on the inexpensive side (1800-1900 @ 1/2 ohm).

The Kicker zx1500.1 would get it done. 1600 or so at 2 ohms. There are a lot of options. Depends mostly on what you can spend.
