Want to do a small SQ build in my car. Tell me what you think.

The Car Is A 2 Door '95 Buick Gransport.

So far i have a deck and 2 amps.

The deck is an eXcelon KDC-X589

The Amps Are (2) Old School Sony XM-5540 (55x4 Or 130x2)

Here's what i was thinking of doing.........

These Vifa A13CG-21-04 5-1/4" Coaxial w/Audax Tweeter | Parts-Express.com

in the front doors , crossed over at 220hz , on front channels of amp #1

These Tang Band W69-1042J 6"x9" Subwoofer | Parts-Express.com in the rear crossed highpass at 80hz at the head unit and 220hz low pass with a inline FMOD , fed with 130 watts off the bridged rear channels of amp #1

And a pair these Tang Band W8-1363SB 8" Subwoofer | Parts-Express.com in the trunk in around 1.2 cubes @35 hz being fed off of Amp #2 bridged to 2 channels and crossed @ 80hz

All in all it will cost $300 bucks for all the speakers and i already have everything else i need. Think it will sound pretty good???

I dont know about the mid bass coming from the rear. Mid bass is still directional and i think it may sound a bit weird having chords from a guitar coming from behind you, while the vocals are coming from the front.

i was kinda thinking that too , but i'm kinda stuck because i'm not doing kick panels or cutting my doors and 5 1/4's are all that fits. and try getting decent low end midbass out of a 5.25 in a IB door hole , it's hard to do on a budget. I know it's not gonna be a true SQ setup but it's definetly not gonna be a SPL monster. LOL. i was wondering if the rear speakers in mono would be ok , i mean its a very narrow range that they play but its a pretty important range. but in order to properly power the rear speakers with my amp i would have to run them parralel and bridged to the rear channels

first of all.. your headunit doesnt have time alignment processing.. and the setup you have listed could really benefit from some time alignment adjustments.

i wouldnt go with coaxials in the front because you lose so much surface area of the cone.

you would be suprised at how well some 5.25inch speakers can play some bass.

you can get some 50hz to help blend the rear midbass with the front bass.

another reason why i wouldnt choose coaxials is because there is no crossover for the top frequencies that are being fed to the woofer.

yes there is a tweeter, but the woofer is gonna try to play the treble too because there is no crossover stopping it from happening.

if you play a speaker like that down to 50hz.. you arent gonna be able to turn it up as loud because it will distort the vocals.

and without any time alignment.. the sound is probably gonna be weird with the midbass in the rear.

which is why i suggest using a speaker up front with at least a 2-way crossover and try to get some bass out of 'em so the final result doesnt sound weird.

a dedicated 2-way crossover will shave off the top frequencies for the woofer.. and depending on the speaker, it could really help cut the load off of the speaker and make it sound cleaner (especially at higher volumes)

without any time alignment.. i dont think you are gonna be happy.

and i think 35hz is way too high for a pair of 8 inch subwoofers.

but in all honesty, i think i like to get lower than most average people.

use trueRTA to see just how low 35hz really is.

I'm going a entirely different route on this car once i get a new motor for it. I got a T/A , active capable deck now. 9855 alpine. I'll update this when i get a motor and figure out the way it will be set up.

That may be true for that set of coaxials but the same cannot be said for all of them There are a decent number of coax models out there that have very good external crossovers supplied with them.

Time alignment has nothing to do with why it won't sound right. No amount of time alignment can make sound coming from behind you sound like it is coming from in front.

That's a pretty arbitrary statement. The last pair of 8s I had didn't particularly like being tuned below around 45hz. I played with the box volume a bit to get a tolerably flat response out of them with a 42hz tuning. Every driver is different and size has little to do with it. I don't remember what those TB subs want for a Butterworth alignment but 35 hz sounds about right.

I have decided against all of this. I'm dead set on this now.

Alpine 9855 , (2) Sony XM-5540 4 Channel Amps , Vifa NE25VTA 1" Aluminum Domes , Silver Flute 5.5" Midwoofers , And A Pair Of SSA Dcon 10's. Thats a little over 300 for speakers and subs. i think it'll sound pretty good.

I hope so , gotta get a running motor in it. It started knocking thanksgiving , and just last week it threw a rod straight through the block. Hit the AC compressor so hard that it broke the compressor mounts off the motor.
