Volume of enclosure for two (2) Ascendant Audio Chaos 18s?

I was wondering what the preferred volume of a vented enclosure for 2 AA Chaos 18s would be. A friend told me it was 12ft^3 at most, I calculated an enclosure for 17ft^3 per the specifications from their website. They said that was way too big, so now I have a small custom vented box (probably less than 12 cubes) I bought off of a friend of a friend for $100 [not a bad box, in the slightest]. It sounds alright, but I just don't think the subs can reach their full potential in this box. If I'm wrong, please let me know, I'm here to learn!

Also if anyone has any more information on these subs please let me know as well, it's kinda weird how they are 18s, that weigh less than 40lbs and can only handle 800W RMS. Anyone have any luck with the Chaos series (I know SMDs are pretty good)?

I have one of mine in 5 cubes for now. Seems to be playing fine. 17 cubes is within the recommended size of 6-10 per, so you'll be fine. I don't think you have to go that big though.
