Volkswagon People ??

I own a 98 passat, dont buy a VW... It will give you much more headache than pleasure, and if the motor has been rebuilt that means the timingbelt went out, so you want to make sure all the engine work and stuff was done at a certified VW mechanic.

in for honda fegs.

On the mk2's, look for rust under the carpet, and rust on the strut towers front and rear.

on the older mk2's 85-90, watch out for wiring issues.

if you're a DIY-er it's a good car, parts are cheap and plentiful.

the people that complain about them being expensive are the ones that take it to the dealership for every little thing. and expect to not be able to take care of it and have it run forever.

they're a bit finicky at times, a little preventative maintenance, and common automobile knowledge goes a long way with older European cars. i've seen mk2's go well over 300k with little to no issues.

A Bentley manual is the best thing you can have with any VW/Audi. Very in depth detailed service manuals, best wiring diagrams.

I found a 03 GTI 1.8 Turbo that needs a clutch for $3300. Im going to see if i can lean him down and act like id take it to a shop for clutch. A shop would charge $750-$1000 for a clutch install in that. I might even call a dealership and see what they would charge just to try to get a higher estimate.

a clutch on a mk4 is super easy. you and a friend even with little to no mechanical experience can do it in your driveway in an afternoon. check ECSTuning.com their stg 1 kit is very good, and very stock feeling.

i have a 05 gti 1.8t, has 120k well driven miles, has given me 0 problems. With a chip and a downpipe, makes the car very fun to drive.

Yahoo answers said i can do it in 3 hours if i have a hoist with a ***** jack. I have 2 post lift that i can put the car on and i might have a ***** jack for it.

Someone told me i needed to pull the motor to put a clutch in that thing.
