voice coils...

Hey everyone, I'm looking to learn more about speaker design and at the moment, I'm interested specifically in voice coil design. I am making my way through the "helpful car audio sites" thread on here, but I'm interested in finding some stuff more specifically focused on voice coils. Thanks for any help you can give.

Pretty much everything... What effects different wire has on performance, different coil heights, number of layers, underhung vs. overhung, etc... I just realize that I'm a bit of an idiot as far as this is concerned and I would like to be a little bit more informed.

Sorry to disappoint with my boring post. I've been trying to figure most of this out on my own, but I haven't had much luck so I decided that I could possibly bug you guys.
No, my fault. It's not boring, I was just going to link you to some information to get you started but it wasn't a very good link. It's a pretty involved topic and probably best left for the engineers using FEA and the like to give you some solid info. Otherwise you might get some bum dope.

Alright. My fear was that most people who know much of anything about this are probably going to have a lot of knowledge about it and not be too concerned with the basic stuff any more. Well thank you for the attempt. Too bad the link wasn't good. I googled FEA and none of the results make much sense for this application. So what is FEA?

Finite Element Analysis. (I think) It's a software suite that aids the designers in modeling flux patterns and much more. I would imagine the voice coil would be a crucial part of that analysis. That's probably a few steps past what you're looking for though, not sure.

Alright, thanks. That sounds really familiar but it's probably just because I have seen the term thrown around on forums here and there. At this point in time, it is probably a bit more than I should be getting into, but in a few months time, I may be to the point where I am interested in it.
