Voice coil went out, question about continued use

I currently have 2 JL 12W3 D2's powered by a Directed 600D amp, i started having a problem with the subs cutting in and out and brought it to custom sounds. He measured the ohms and one was getting like 7 and the other 4, so he said the voice coil was ruined. So i was wondering if i could continue to use the 1 Sub that it is good, and what if any changes needed to be made to the configuration. I wasnt sure if i could simply unplug the audio wires from the box or if i had to do more.
