Does it do damage or adversely effect a dvc sub to run it with the amp only hooked up to one of the voice coils?
if it is a dual 4 then that means it has 2 4 ohm coils. hooking them up + to + and - to - gives a 2 ohm reading. and hooking up + to - and + to - makes a 8 ohm reading, which is not recommended.Im looking at the SA12, which has an impedance of 4 and some change. Is that impedance only when both voice coils are hooked up or just one though?
yes he could. he could get a two channel and hook up each voice coil to each channel and see 4 ohms per channel. just gotta be careful setting all your gains and whatnot. Can he hook up 2 of the vc to 2 different channel?
Some amp gain setting is for 2 channels.yes he could. he could get a two channel and hook up each voice coil to each channel and see 4 ohms per channel. just gotta be careful setting all your gains and whatnot.
high ohm loads do not hurt anything period, as a matter of fact there a lot easier on the amp and the cars electrical.if it is a dual 4 then that means it has 2 4 ohm coils. hooking them up + to + and - to - gives a 2 ohm reading. and hooking up + to - and + to - makes a 8 ohm reading, which is not recommended.
Don't hook each vc to a separate channel, run bridged with the speaker at an 8ohm load and bridged amp and each channel will see a 4ohm load and there won't be any issues with the amp doing slightly different rms levels across the channels they vary slightly from left to right.yes he could. he could get a two channel and hook up each voice coil to each channel and see 4 ohms per channel. just gotta be careful setting all your gains and whatnot.

good luck gettting any wattage out at 8 ohms lolhigh ohm loads do not hurt anything period, as a matter of fact there a lot easier on the amp and the cars electrical.
get the dual 4 ohm if you want to run it at 2 ohm by itself. if you get the 2 ohm voice coil you can either go 1 ohm or 4 ohmGreat feedback thank you!!! Sorry I should have clarified a little bit more. I'm going to be getting(if the configuration I want to use works, if not I will get the 4 ohm) a 2 ohm dvc SA12, and the amp I have is a SAZ 1500d. At 2ohm the 1500 puts out 800, which I figure would be a good daily driver wattage, but if I ever wanted to pull up into the lanes and get a decibel reading I would like to hook up the additional vc and put the full 1500 to it. I can only fit one 12 in my ranger and thats the route I really want to go, so no suggestions on other set ups please. Back to the original question of is it okay to hook just one vc up on a dvc sub? I have been out of the audio game for 7-8 years so I apologize for the cobwebs in my head about some of this stuff.
I used to get plenty of power out of my power series T-600.2 at 8ohms Rf hx2 d4 bridged as it was over 500 watts rms and sounded **** good doing it! and a 2 ohm load bridged is 1ohm per channel and I don't know of any class a/b amps that can do that and "most" 2 channel amps are a/b.good luck gettting any wattage out at 8 ohms lol
