I am going to purchase a car alarm tomorrow and was gonna ask around a bit first. I called this place audio express and the total amount to have them install a viper 5900 with the bybass is $710. Now with best buy on the viper 791with bybass is about $530. What is the major difference between these two auto start alarms? Big price difference just trying to see whats up. Thx in advance.

791 gives you 3/4 mile range. I have the 5900 and its an awesome alarm, and i got a great deal of only $380 installed.

The 5900 is not worth the extra money. The mile range and 3/4 range is assuming your in an open field or whatever, so you wont notice much of a difference at all in range between the two.

had to point this out you are wrong. and i quote from directeds website "you will get confirmation back that it started from up to one-quarter mile away."

the 7900 there has been issues with it from what i have heard and it sucks the batteries.

so should i just settle with the 791?

I believe it is rated at 3/4 mile range to be able to remote start your vehicle but you are also correct in saying that you will only get confirmation 1/4 mile away. Either way there is quite a bit of difference in range from remote to brain than brain to remote.

And if you feel the extra range is worth the price than go for it

I have the 5900 and it was welll worth it for me. Mines didn't go all the way to 1 mile but 3/4 of a mile. Still far enough for me. I compared my alarm to my friend's 791xv and his range did not seem far at all.

k i am going to be purchasing the 5900. I know a guy who is trying to get his own shop going and doesnt do viper alarms but he said if i order one off the internet i can get him to install with a $25 bypass and labor of $75 so can anyone lead me in a direction where i can purchase this alarm online for not to outrageous of a price the 5900 that is

the only time you are going to find an authorized dei alarm is installed. just buy it off line and have a local installer put it in.... shouldnt be more then $400 after everything is said and done. it will be the same alarm and probably the same quality.... audio express is a rip off... ask them where the $1 install went on that alarm....
