Good work though, I wish I had time for my similar projects //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Hahaha.

Well, it's playing music. The tubes are glowing and the noise floor is lower than it used to be. All in all, it's a perfectly working vacuum tube headphone amp. A quick test with a multimeter rates it at roughly 1.5 watts per channel, which will cause my headphones to blow if I'm not careful. I usually use Sony M838 earbuds, which you can find at Best Buy or Walmart for $10, or Amazon.com for about $4. They're cheap enough to replace once every other month, and they sound good.

Speaking of tube amps, does a solid state amp in outer space = vacuum tube amp ? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif
Perhaps, but I bet you could get one hell of a soundstage in space...if you could find a way to get pressure //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

They should start making tubes in space. LOL //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif:naughty://content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif

MAN GET SOME GOOD PHONES!!! Just a thought.....

The initial amp itself was part of a Westinghouse record player. The record player part was done in by the rain and weather (left outside numerous years). I picked that up for free. Most of the amp itself was in good shape. I've spent around $60 repairing it, but I could have probably built it for about $130.

EDIT: But $130 is a rough, ROUGH estimate with no clue about the cost of transformers and tubes.

The tubes are dirt cheap...

The transformers are where the money goes...and that's where the big improvements come //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif But on a small project like this, not really worth it.
