i dunno if this was asked, but whats that yellow shit near the tinsel leads on the first page?

By the terminals? Its a mix of wax and flux from soldering the tinsel leads. The lead wire is much heavier than other lead wire in similar applications and takes a bit more heat and flux to solder it properly.
