Upgrading HU

I currently have a Alpine CDE 9874 and I was thinking about upgrading to the CDA 9886. Besides the ton of features that the 9986 has over the 9874, will I notice any differences? Is it just a waste of money to upgrade? Thanks

That depends off what u have? What does your audio setup look like.

I see that u only have front speakers going on an amp,so probably it wont make any big diffrence. Depends how well trained ear u got.

My advice is if u wanna upgrade go with the 9887.. At least there u have the processor,9886 is just over priced,its basicly the same as 9884 with a couple of non important functions.

I guess I'm going go with the 9887. Although I do like the looks of the 9886 more, I think the 9887 is the better choice.

A couple of questions. Will the 9887 fit in the same place where my 9874 is? Or will I have to buy another plastic piece, whatever they are called. Also, Do I have to buy a new cable harness? Or can I use the one from my 9874? Thanks

CDA-9887 is their top of the line...if you were looking at a 9886, you might as well go to the 9887. I have had mine for about 2 years now. Absolutely love it. I bought it for Imprint, and that feature alone makes it well worth it, as long as you know how to set the amps prior to running the software.

I was talking to a guy selling a 9887. He claims you still need the imprint to unlock the EQ features in the 9887, but on crutchfield, it acts as if they are already there...

they are there. all the imprint kit does is offer you an auto-tuning feature for you system. it is not needed, the deck can do everything that the imprint can.

Agreed, but I thought my "ear" was better than relying on Imprint...I used the parametric and messed around with it until I thought I had it set pretty good and to my liking. The I tried Imprint. HUGE difference, for the better with Imprint. I could not believe it.

I'd give the Imprint a go if you want to truly get the most out of the 9887. Crutchfield will also allow you to "rent" the Imprint for 30 days I think it is. Afterall, once you get the system tuned, you won't really need it again unless you make changes to amps, speakers, etc. I bought mine and do use it from time to time just to mess with some settings.

Also, with the 9887 parametric settings and time delays, the adjustments can get quite overwhelming...another reason for Imprint. Unless you have an RTA.

Check out Alpine's website for authorized dealers.... Pacific Stereo and ABT seem to have the best prices (and free shipping) and even no tax if you do not live in the same state as them.

I got my iva-W505 for $750 flat.

ps: i just went from the 9887 to the w505 and I will say the 9887 is absolutely bad-***... Great deck!
