Hello! I'm new to the car audio scene and I wanna upgrade the system I have now. Most of it was all installed by other people and now I wanna learn to do things myself and save a bit of money so I can have more to spend! So my current system in my 99 blazer is

4 doors

Mono Amp

2 12in subs

Head Unit

and at the moment i have no amplifier going to my speakers. I'm basically looking for a well priced amplifier for my speakers, And also some new subwoofers and an amplifier to match. and my last question, how important is a good head unit? Oh also if i do keep these subs would building a custom box for them really make decent difference.(they are in a prefab box made by the audio shop i got them at).

Well, for an amp for my speakers im looking to spend about $200, and as far as new subs/amp all together $800ish but if I can go louder with what i have now/ only switch one or the other I'd also be interested in where that can go.

If you're getting new subs, you should build a new box for your system / situation. A prefab box will sound like dog sh*t. They're usually tuned too high, not big enough (inefficient) and have too little port area. This results in peaky, high frequency response, and absent lows.

Well for 1000 bucks you can get pretty loud. As far as sub I'd go one of these SoundQubed HDS215 15 INCH SUBWOOFER - SSA STORE

You can keep the same amp.

Build a custom ported box for it and you'll be louder than your subs you have now

any tips on building a custom box? i've looked into it, but i dont know the specifics on size.

All depends on which sub you choose in order to build the right box. When you decide, look up @skdooley on this site for box plans. Great price (20.00 for sealed or ported, 25.00 for bandpass) and you'll be building in no time.

You mentioned that the box you have now was built by the shop that did your install.... that's a custom enclosure, not a prefab. Unless of course, that shop builds the box you have en masse. But even then, prefab boxes are not by default, poor quality boxes.

And no one can recommend a change without knowing what subs are in the box, what car the box is in, what power is on the system and the specs of the box. It could be that the box you have now is perfect for your situation.

They just build them all the same size. but im also wondering will that 1 15, be louder then my 2 12's?

It depends on what type of subs you have now. "12's" is not specific enough. With your budget, I would recommend soundqubed though.

I didn't see that it was linked with what you had. Yes, the Soundqubed sub would be louder than those powerbass 12's.

Sundown makes good clean 4 channels that are active capable. Once again, soundqubed would be a good option too. You can check on pricing for both of these brands. They may be slightly over your $200 budget, but not much. I forget what the exact prices on multi-channels are.
