Upgrade From Rockford P3D4-12

Hey guys.

I currently have a Rockford Fosgate P3D4-12 in a custom ported enclosure I built along with a RAM-Designs design powered by a Rockford Fosgate P400-1 amplifier.

I love it so far. Hits very well in my Mustang (I cant fit two 12's in a ported box in my tiny trunk) and sounds clean and clear to me. However, I want to improve it so that it's louder and I'd love if it was more punchier than the P3. I'm debating either a 750w amp and just over power the sub since I heard they can handle a beating or just replacing both the sub and the amp.

My box is 40" wide, 17" deep, 11" tall in the back and 7" tall in the front with the subwoofer mounted on the angled top baffle. It's around 2.1ft.^3 I believe. I built the box right at a year ago so I'd rather not already have to build another one.

What is the box tuned to? Tune higher for louder punchier bass. Equipment wont matter as much as box design

33Hz. I listen to a wide variety of music.

I listen to a lot of rap and trance music but also listen to things like Metallica, Asking Alexandria, Avenged Sevenfold, Slipknot, etc.

If i have to sacrifice punchy bass in order to be able to hit deep and low I'll make that sacrifice.

Would a Sundown SA-12 be an improvement?

Yes the sundown would make a nice improvement the sq is really nice too my sa 15 really surprised me hitting note even my type r's (12's) had a hard time with and had to put in the back seat because of lack of space. If only i could shove it in my trunk.. i would consider around 1000 rms to power it i ran 1300 and ran about 70% gain and 50% boost.. hope this gives you some help.

instead of the sa, look at soundqubed hds3 or american bass xfl
