Unwanted noises

Recently a friend of mine sold me an old 15 inch sub and his old infinity 102a amp. He ended up leaving town before I could install it so this has been somewhat of a learning experience for me.

Anyways my problem is that whenever I turn my engine on I can hear engine noises being produced. I can also hear noises like doors being shut. Also When I turn on the system in the car it takes about 5 seconds after the front speakers start playing music for the sub to kick in, and often is punches when it gets powered.

Anyone have any idea whats going on with this? Do I need to elaborate more on my setup?

By the way I drive a 98 Malbiu

Yeah i'm using RCA's to connect the deck to the amp. one of my buddies suggested that the engine could have been causing vibrations in the cords and i should run them a different way, but i'm not sure what way would be more efficient then going strait through the center.

vibrations wont cause that...does your rca's cross a power wire? if so that is your problem
That would have been true 20 years ago lol. Almost all RCAs now are shielded, you can tape your rcas to your power wire if you want and I'll bet you if the rest of the install is done correctly you'll have no noise.

What amp are you using? Have it grounded really well in the back?

What deck are you using?
