No, because it is unlocked you can just pop in your SIM and continue on your merry way. Make sure you turn data off on your account before you swap the SIM cards, this means blocking Edge completely even the pay as you go junk. They'll know you have an iPhone, but they can't force you to have the data plan, as you didn't sign an iPhone contract.

The battery has been great for me, I can go at least a full day without having to worry about a charge.
