Unemployment

My dad has been out of work for a while now and when he first applied for unemployment it took almost 2 weeks for it to go through. So I wouldn't worry too much about the time, more people than ever are getting unemployment.

I am 99% sure that you have to file unemployment in the state that you worked. This is something that could be different from state to state though.
it depends entirely on the state. i mentioned that people i know work in pa, ohio, and wv then when they go to file unemployment they will take a trip to mass. and file there because the rate is so high. mass. does not require you to work or live there to file there.

as for me i work in both pa and ohio.i live in ohio. pa's rule is that my pa wages have to at least 1/3 my benefit amount to claim there. the op has to call the unemployment office in alabama and see what there rules are. no other way to find this out unless someone on here from alabama has the info to give him.

they may require him to be physically in the state of alabama to file there though. so he would have to drive there and use a phone there because they may check caller id like pa did to me. i called from my house phone and everyone knows how long it takes to get through. have to sit there for like an hour hitting redial til you get through.

but anyways. i finally get through and she said im going to have to call back because she saw that i was calling from ohio.

Forgive my ignorance, but are there requirements to get unemployment, like having worked at a job for a number of years? Why not just get a job at Mcdonalds or something? Does it run out or the state/gov just keep giving the person money?

I can see in some instances where a single parent might need to get on it if he/she got fired from her job and had to take care of there children, but I dont see how any normal healthy young adult would need to get unemployment?

Instead of actively looking for unemployment, why not go out and look for a new job, and sure seems like alot of you co-ck suckers seem to know alot about this subject... I have no problem with a person getting unemployment for a short period of time until they cant get back on there feet, especially when half of these companys screw hard workers on a daily basis...

well its probably a little different for each state but from my experience you have to have 26 weeks of work for the year, they go by quarters, the most recent quearter is not considered unless you dont have enuff earnings/work weeks for the last year prior to the most recent quarter. your rate of unemployment will be determied by the amount you made in your highest earning quarter.

as for getting a job at mcd's. say your getting 400-550 a week on unemployment. you would have to make at least that to benefit from working. and that would be after taxes.

as for running out. yes you can exhaust your compensation. you get 26 weeks worth. sometimes the government will put an extension on when the country is in a situation like it is now.

you must be young/live with mommy and daddy which would explain your ignorance. if not then i feel sorry for you.

while collecting you must be looking for work, or must be on an out of work list at your local union hall. which is what i do. im in the operators union. i operate heavy equipment. they know its not like you can go out and get a job somewhere when you can be called to work at any moment. who is going to hire someone that may not be there the next day without notice.

i have gotten called 7am to go to work. disbatcher will say get there as soon as you can. reasons for this is usually because someone that was working either called off or got canned for not cutting it.

and like i mentioned before. you have to bring home more than your benefit amount for it to be worth your time. but if its a perminant layoff you have to be seeking employment while you collect any ways. this is money paid to the state from your employer. if you do not collect on it, the state gets to keep it. they keep the uncollected amout that is left once your 1yr claim expires if you have not exhausted the funds.

unemployment is not = welfare //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

also i would like to mention that some people have bills/kids etc. and this will help them during there time of seeking employment. they will also help you find work. so you might want to learn about something before you judge.
