Uneducated audioshops

This is why you research a shop before going to them or letting them work on your car. I agree there are plenty of hack shops with employees who don't know much other than how to put equipment in. Very little knowledge of the theories and principals behind what we do. You get a lot of mechanics who are the same way. There are plenty of quality shops with knowledgable installers and sales staff. You just have to look around for them.

x2...i dont use this particular shop for anything but terminals, wire, fuses etc. there is another shop in town that has better products and reputation, albeit slightly more costly, and this is the one I would use if I needed something done. Although, I have done everything myself so far

If this is the case, then why not just run your amps straight off the batteries in the back?
I think he meant the load that an amp requires will pull off the batt bank and then proceed to pull/strain the alt.

So i was at the local audio shop today and the owner didnt know what the big 3 upgrade was, or its purpose and benefits.
That's because it is a cute name for an internet sensation and he is a real shop in the real world and I am just sure he was begging for someone potty trained on the internet installation field to come in that day and tell him something "he didn't know". A proper followup to the conversation would have been to say "LOL, L33T, HAXXORZ" aloud and run out of the building.

well, if he knew what it was, he sure wasnt letting on. his stance was that 2 batteries is the cure-all for any electrical situation. The same guy was asking the install guy how many watts the JL Amp put out at a specific load...those JL amps have regulated outputs, they are 1000rms at 1.5-4ohm...so I dont know, maybe the guy was drunk that day?

Aye theirs one local like that. Only things he sell is Kenwood, Alpine, and Clarion and largest wire/accessories he has is 4 gauge. Sucks I have to drive 20 minutes to a different audio store if I want something and dont feel like getting it from online. Also he is maybe opened like 20 hours a week 5 days a week. The other store is open 6 days a week around 45 hours a week. And its ran by a older guy around his 60s if im not mistaking. The other one is ran by someone in their 30s.
