underpowered?

I have 2 alpine type r 2 ohm DVC subs and i ordered an amp that puts out 1200 watts at 1 ohm. But, i found out that you cant wire that setup up to 1 ohm, and the amp runs 900 watts at 2 ohms and that's how i'll have to wire it up. The subs are 500 rms a piece. Is this a big deal? Am i going to damage the subs? Thanks for any help.

underpowering does not damage subs - never has, never will.

Is that a Hifonics? Won't do rated power anyway - probably 700-800. Decent amps for the cost though. It will run fine - slightly (barely audible) less output with 700-800w than you'd get with ~1000.

As soon as you turn the volume down froom 100%, you're under powering all speakers / subs.
