I have 2 channel Jensen amp that will put out 170W RMS bridged. I want to run an Image Dynamics sub in a sealed box. Should I a) go with the ID8 as it calls for 175W, or b) get the ID10 (250W) and run it underpowered, hoping that I may one day get a more powerful amp (not likely for quite a while)?
Will I get better bass from an underpowered 10" or an 8" at recommended power?
For clarity.....I know I'd be better off just getting a better amp, but I already have this one (only $30) and I'm trying to get what I can without peaking the wife's interest too much (she'd rather I not spend a dime on audio upgrades). That is also part of the reason I want an ID sub, small volume requirements so I can make an itty sealed box that she won't find offensive. Plus I know I could do the 10" ported to get more out of it, but I prefer the sound of a sealed box.
