Ultra Lite MDF worth the trip?

I asked a supplier for some info and this is what i got back

Hello,

3/4" MDF cost 22.95 a 4 x 8 sheet. 1" MDF cost 31.95 a 4 x 8 sheet. 3/4" MDF Ultra liet (about 70 pounds) cost 23.95 a 4 x 8 sheet. We do not believe that Trupan is distributed in this area. Thanks for your questions.

Does anyone think Ultra Lite MDF is worth the 180 miles round trip? These will be for boxes made for others that will be shipped thru Fedex. I believe regular MDF is 100 pounds a sheet and this is about a 30% weight reduction.

BTW....i need about 10 sheets

if it isnt trupan id say save the gas $ and get the mdf

you wont be saving much weight from the ultra lite you mentioned. maybe a few pounds

It may be worth it if u build several and load a trailer or something to bring back. Im sure the savings on shipping and packing hassel may be worth it in the long run.

the weight savings in nice in general but for your purposes of shipping the cost difference to ship a box through fed ex won't be as big as you might think between using regular and ultra light mdf

I use Birch sometimes, I get it at work.

is there a difference between 3/4in birch and 13ply birch? A sheet of birch is 34.xx out here

they have birch around here for 26 or 28ish a sheet after tax around winter...had it last year and when i went to get more (still have a piece in the garage with the SKU sticker on it) they looked it up in the computer and said its seasonal..only winter..

just the price....$70 a sheet. Lots of people are complaining about my way too cheap(in their mind expensive) prices, they'll never go for 13 ply birch

the stuff here local at 2 lumber yards

i think is only 9ply is $64 or around there

may be able to get some cheap 1/4 or 1/2 birch vaneer for about 30 or so
