neodymium is a rare® magnet that is lighter than standard magnets, i believe they were first used in microphones when they wanted the mics to be lighter, but still be able to maintain their quality and SPL handeling

 
I read a while back from Dan Wiggins (iirc) that neo motors aren't really any more money to build, but that they hadn't been adopted more yet due to heat issues and the simple fact that most people seem to like subs with fat *****.

Ive never run a neo sub, Id be concerned about heat saturation myself. But looks very cool, let us know how it works out (very well I bet).
