I though Lesnar and Mir both won interim championships and Lesnar unified them when he defeated Mir. I'm not the biggest MMA fan in the world, so I'm probably wrong...

Couture was the UFC champ when Lesnar beat him. Couture won it from Tim Sylvia then retired or something. Sylvia and Big Nog fought for the interm belt thereafter, which Big Nog won. Then Dana White showed Randy his penis and convinced him to come back with the belt and fight the largest freak he could find. The Mir and Big Nog bout was for that belt. Mir won, then preceded to get his face tenderized by Lesnar.
