turbo boat

man hacker makes some no joke motors. this kid at hobbytown where i work, well not really a kid, hes 20, dropped 2 hackers into his emaxx. car just about disintegrated when he opened up the throttle. wheels spinning, shafts just snapping like none other.

Hacker makes a claim that they have a motor for the emax that will beat all modified motors and most nitro trucks in its class. Pretty impressive. I remember back when brushless motors were just coming out in r/c and people were bashing them because at the time they were less efficient than brushed motors, were expensive, were very sensitive to moisture (this may still be the same) and didn't have as much output as brushed motors. Now the brushed motors can't keep up.

My friend runs nitro hydro's, and they're pretty fukkin schweet. It's **** expensive though.. We also used to race touring cars until that fizzled out (still got an rs4, but it's fugged up).

His A mono boat (mono hull, single engine .90 or something like that) runs about 70 mph, and his hydro (like the one in the vid) does like 85 with a smaller motor, the .90 hydros do about 100 average, but they turn and stuff, not like this drag boat.

That boat can turn, it just has short run times. I think the race hydros that complete a full race which is I think like 6 laps do around 50-55 mph. But definitely the advantage to nitro is they can run faster longer. .90 engines are very powerful. I believe that's the biggest nitro engine that boaters use. But the disadvantage to nitro is expensive fuel. Then you have 2 stroke gas engines that are quite impressive now and have cheaper fuel costs. Bh hanson makes gas engines one in particular that produces over 10 hp.

yeah, that Hacker company makes a brushless motor the size of a coke can, the hobby shop i'm working for has one on backorder and will be putting it in a heli. i will post the pics as soon as we get it.

if u think about it, nitro fuel is incredibly expensive. maybe because its done in scale, but a gallon of fuel is 30 bucks vs a gallon of gas is 1.80. yeah i wish i was back in electric, actually i don't. it really evens out to be about the same. cause with electric, all the main components need to be upgraded. chassis, receiver, servos, batteries, speed control, motor. vs nitro which is tuned pipe and engine....

I'm not sure what you mean when you say upgraded?

There is nothing to upgrade with electrics. You buy a motor and it lasts years you buy a speed control and it lasts years. You buy a regular servo and it lasts years. Battery packs last a long time unless you are into setting speed records then you fry batteries constantly making nitro power cheaper. That's probably what you mean when you say upgrade.

no no no. what i mean, is that with electrics, all the main components are upgraded. each is responsible for a boost in power. with nitros, only the engine is usually upgraded, if u see what i mean. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/spank.gif.0d78e34d42ea8780359e903aeb6697d6.gif

to CF or other lighter componants. and a gallon of gas i never paid 30 bucks for, i always payed like 22 for a gallon of blue thunder and 20 for a gallon of maxy RACE fuel.
my whole truck is carbonfiber (rustler). and my fuel is 30% trintiy platinum. its like 28 bucks. i jsut rounded it up. now, its 40% off cause i work there lol.

sooner or later they will make a speed control that can accept lithium ion batteries. theyre lighter and they put out more voltage and MaH. hacker is definetly a hardcore company. their brushless will beat ANY modified motor, i've seen it beat a 2 turn triple mod motor. nothing even compares to hacker

That's why I buy my equipment for expandability. Get a speedcontrol that can handle up to 32 cells so if I want to expand to 18-24 cells I just swap motors. It's like buying an amp that puts out 1200 watts when your subs only need 600 watts. But that is true. If you don't look to the future you will have to buy a new speed control and motor.

How often do your nitro engines need a piston and sleeve and how much do they cost? What size engine do you have? I'm thinking of picking up a nitro engine because they are light and cheap for my r/c boat, but I was wondering how much it costs to replace the piston and sleeve in a .90 engine.

im running the stock 2.5 traxxas motor (.15). ive never replaced the piston or sleeve. right now, i have soft shocks all around. in a .90 motor, i have no idea. isn't that an airplane engine size? well, im not sure. in all of my cars, ive never had to change out a piston or sleeve cause i take care of ou have?
