turbo boat

its not really turbo......most likely that was electric.
according to someone on rcuniverse.net, its somehow forced induction electric. all i can think of is like some kinda nitrous sprayed on the motor to keep it cool, but the guy in the video says "thats the turbine?" well, electrics dont have turbos. so im really not sure.

That definitely wasn't a nitro engine, because it didn't sound like one. It might have been electric. I had a 12 cell deep vee hull with an astroflight cobalt 25 engine and it sounded like that to some degree. I'd say my deep vee did around 35mph, but deep vees are the slowest hulls because they have high drag compared to the outrigger you saw in the video, which is the fastest hull design. Also a turbine engine is unlikely being that it is highly unlikely that they have a clutch and when they put it in the water the boat just sat there. Nitro engines also don't use a clutch they continue to move around at idle slowly. So I'd say it's an electric. Back in the past, I don't know if this is still true, but an electric drag rc car held the speed record at 120mph. Nitro cars couldn't match it. It must be well above that with the new brushless electric motors and high capacity batteries. The only downfall to electric when they set records like that is they fry the batteries. The discharge the cells at such a high rate they melt down. Also the run time of that boat only lasts a matter of seconds. My deep vee hull ran for around two minutes max I believe and discharged packs at around 45 amps. 45*14.4=648watts. That boat was discharging at a much higher rate than this and probably had 18-24 batteries. It was probably discharging at 60-70 amps.

i know, he said in the video it was a turbine, but it was too smooth to be a nitro. btw, ive been in nitro for 3 yrs, rc for 5. that doesn't sound like a nitro, but u never know. it does peak, and electrics are not that loud. that smooth, but not that loud.

yeah ive been into r/c off and on for about 3 years now, and i dont see how an electric motor could be forced induction, we used to spray extra virgin olive oil, into some of our old car motors, it freed up a lot of resistance, doubled speeds at some points, by all means these were tiny motors. they were in cars called tamiya mini 4wd.

The Old Guy At The End Of The Video Is My Neighbor!!!!!!!! I'm Being Serious Too. and the boat is electric. an industry called Hacker who makes electric motors and speed controls is what is used in that boat. it ran off of 3 6 cell NiCd batteries.

I don't know. If you're running 18-24 cells with a high rpm electric motor they can scream. Mine made a similar noise not as loud, but I also had the astroflight motor which is out dated and only runs on 12 cells along with the fact it only ran at 35 mph. I'd expect an electric to be that loud when it's doing 120 mph in water.

You should see how some of these electic motors for boats are made. I ran rc cars with the typical 05 motors then I ordered the astroflight cobalt 25 marine and it was massive in comparison. Electric motor don't use air to run so I don't know why forced induction would have anything to do with it, unless it was for cooling purposes but most electric boats run a watercooled speed control and motor.

Awesome, I guesstimated the cell count. I figured it was around 18-24 at the max because anymore than 24 cells and the boats will be too heavy to attain the high speeds.
