my friend built a ported box just by building the port to what he thought was right...

so basically i wanna figure out what he tuned his box to..

port is 24 wide by 5 tall by 9in deep..box volume is between 12 to 14 cu ft.

sorry i cant be more specific but thats all he knows. funny thing is hes running 2 BTL 18"s in it...with a ported box he just winged it on. so can anyone gimme a frequency range of whats its tuned to?

It's between 34hz and 37hz but that is based off of your random numbers. To get a much closer and pretty **** accurate measurement, play some test tones from 30hz to 45hz and find the spot where the cone moves the least using the same volume level. This will be very close to the tuning frequency. I wouldn't play it full tilt but good enough to tell the difference between excursion.

lol, I remember my very first box I built. I guessed on the port and it sounded great. A few years later when I found RE's calc I put in the specs of the box and its was 34hz. lucky!
