Trunk Enclosure

Hi everybody I'm a newbie here, but do have a pretty good education on car audio. I recently bought an 88 mercedes 300ce (coupe). I've heard that mercedes body and trucks are pretty well sound proofed. I don't want to attract alot of attention with boom so I'm not going for a huge bass system, just something to be heard from inside the cab mainly. I then came up with the thought of having a subwoofer mounted at the center of the rear deck facing up(where the first aid cabin is). I already have a 1200watt amp and a 1500watt eclipse 10" sub sitting around to try this, but before I attempt this I want opinions on if the bass or sound quality would sound good or not? Is using the entire truck for an enclosure a no-no? Oh and my windows are tinted so seeing the sub wouldn't be very noticable. Thanx!

As mentioned, that would be an IB set-up and you would probably want to make sure your driver is suitable for such applications. I do not imagine it is as I have not seen many Eclipse woofers made for such. What I would recommend is following through with your plan but teaching yourself some fiberglassing skills and creating an enclosure under the rear deck. I have thought about this quite a bit because it's what I would like to do //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif If you can't do that, then I would recommend doing some research on the exact model driver and seeing what is possible. You may just be able to wall off the rear section of the trunk creating a rather large, but still sealed/ported, enclosure.

i agree, tape off the majority of your trunk and the backside of your backseat. learn to fiberglass as it is the easier things i have done with car audio. In your situation it doesnt even have to be pretty. cut a piece of wood to fit the contours of your trunk vertically and fit it in, then glass the endge of it, to seal it off almost completely, if not completely. just an idea.

Well I said I want nobody to hear my music cause I have learned a lesson in the past in my explorer, as I use to bump my 2 15's with a cap and 2 amp setup. I yet have no garage and alarms as many of know are becoming useless. Thus they got both my amps and my deck which was also eclipse

O.K. it the 10" titanium sub that I have from eclipse dvc

Specs are: http://www.eclipse-web.com/sw9100/sw9102.html

Now when it comes to boxes I don't know nothing. I'm aiming towards SQ and besides the power ratings (RMS and MAX) I'm clueless on what the specs mean. Is it all based on cubic inches, shape and size of the box, thickness or exclosure, or ported/seal. And since it will be in the trunk would ported be better?
