Totally shocked , from changing wire ...

I've been working for about a month on tuning , installing , and tweaking my system with a friend who is the top installer in a local shop. He has 25 yrs experience , and builds competition level systems .... so he's got a pretty good ear. We've been trying to get a warmer sound from my system , without losing the detail and transparency of the sound .....

While he was at work today , some new interconnects I ordered came in and I installed them. When I arrived at the shop when it closed , he was finishing up some business , so I walked a few blocks to grab a coffee .... When I got back he was sitting in the car listening to some music. When I walked up , he got out and was estatic .... He said " Dude .... How the hell did you do it " ? " You've got the sound just right ... It's all warm and solid sounding now ". He knew the EQ alone just wasn't working out to obtain this sound as of just yesterday when we worked on it. I told him I had not done anything to it at all since yesterday .... then I said " Oh yeah , I did get the new interconnects today and installed them "

That's all I did , and he didn't know it even , but the difference was easily recognizeable to us .....

How is this possible considering I went from one expensive interconnect brand to aanother ....not from cheapo to hi end .....

Were any of the connectors loose or broken?

If changing your interconnects improves your system, and they weren't broken or you didn't have a severe noise problem before, something else happened; or pyschoacoustics is getting the better of you...but I'm glad your system sounds better to you.

That's just it Frosty .... the old interconnects are in perfect condition .... we even screwed loose the RCA's to make sure all of the wires were still soldered tight , EVERYTHING checked out just fine. Ken decided to put the old ones back in ( running over the seats / carpet temporarily , and we lost that warmth and solidity again .... We were just blown away by all of this.

Just FYI ... The old interconnects were Rockford Riot , and the new ones are Streetwires 6N .....

There has to be something more to this...
Yeah .... I'm kind of hoping someone can shed some light for me too. If I had of told Ken first about the new wire , I'd have just marked it all up to imagination , but he didn't have a clue ....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Get a few more guys at the shop to do a blind ABX test...then I'll believe you.
Please .... You don't have to believe me at all .... I'm just as shocked as you are.

BTW , Safi was still there ( shop owner ) , and he also heard the difference when Ken swapped the wires back out temporarily.

I wonder if the shop's RTA would measure a difference with pink noise ?? May have to check out that avenue.

Lastly , we ended up pulling a couple of db out of 200 hz , when we couldn't boost it enough yesterday without creating other problems with the sound .... I'm just lost ......

ABX testing is the only way to properly conduct a test...however, every single ABX test that I've seen on the subject of interconnects shows it's at best a 50/50 split - meaning the human ear can't tell the difference if every other test condition is held constant.

I buy my interconnects on the basis of price and build construction. If they look cool, that's a nice bonus to have. Sound doesn't come into play.

If you have an RTA, get it on the meter by all means.

wait let me guess, Later on in the thread this guy will mention what interconnects he used to make everything sound so great. Then every one on caraudio.com will go buy a pair....
Buy some if you want Jose .... I don't own stock in ANY wire company LOL

I'll send a pair of these Rockfords to anyone with a lab that can test them .... I'd like to find out what's up ....

Interesting .... I didn't buy the new interconnects for better sound , but because I liked the way they looked better , AND I needed shorter lengths ....

The shop has a EXPENSIVE AS HELL RTA ... LOL .. I'll see if I can get Ken to measure them tomorrow .....

For the record , and in case this matters , here are the differences in the two pairs :

One set has a silver positive and 2 copper negative conducters in a braided configuration.

The other has all silver conducters in a twisted pair design.

Both are teflon coated.

One has NO outer jacket , the other has a nylon braid and plastic jacket.

Other than that , they seem the same....

I did not name which was which , in the hopes maybe the clues above will reveal something to someone ....

Yeah, I'm familar with the configuration of Rockford's Riot series //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I'd say get some meter time...the machine won't be affected by psychoacoustics.
