Eh...getting his IP off craigslist would be sorta difficult. Just act like a buyer and ask to come meet up with him and see it, if you know the serial numbers, check them, and call him out on it. If he refuses to give it back, get the cops involved ASAP, follow him.

heres what you need to do.
1. go with a friend.
2. make sure one of you is packing.
3. ask to look at the laptop and boot it up to make sure it is in working order.
4. if you're shit is on there and/or its your serial number proceed to step 5, if not tell him thank you and you'll keep in contact.
5. if the shit is yours. tell him you'll be taking it back.
6. when he asks why just ask him where he got it from.
7. you can do two things here. A) knock him out B) draw up on him and tell him you're taking it back.
8. get new license plates and leave current residence. it helps to have your stuff packed and all ready to go.

they would be dumb to wipe the harddrive for the simple fact that I had just loaded over 2k in software (was about to sell it) and it would be worth several hundred less.
so hopefully i can get in touch with him...but if i could find out the info from an IP or something...its a friend of a friend of a friend...but noone knows exactly who it was that stole it..so if I could be like hey..does anyone you know live ___________. if someone knows it...i roll up..steal everything they own, beat their girlfriend..and go back to my business

Bring a friend with a weapon just encase.
If you know its yours, just take it back, if he attacks you , beat the crap outta him.
If hes stronger than you or bigger, etc. Get his plate down, follow him home.

You can get the IP Address from Craigslist, but it would be very hard to obtain, you would need to get the cops involved. Which means you would need to know its your laptop.
Theres no way anyone here could get the ip address from craigslist.
Your best bet would be to act as a buyer, saying you'll give him full price for it or whatever.
