To port or not.

Everyone is going to tell you "OMG PORTED IS THE ONLY WAY", but with the right driver sealed will be near the same volume to the ear and probably sound better. Especially versus a ported box where you were going to accept some enclosure deficiencies just to make ported work.

Does he want to feel the bass or does he want the boom booms to blend?

I personally feel sealed being useless as im not interested in that output so its my opinion

Pretty sure this is written by a person who has never had a sealed setup. Saying you can't feel either one isn't based solely on enclosure configuration, it's based on output. I've got a ported 8" sub for my computer, why can't I feel it in my chest???

Sealed will sound better across a wider range, but you can make a ported box have the same Sq in a smaller range. Gckless does have a point though if you don't have enough room to go ported and have to sacrifice Sq by having a smaller box then go sealed.

Assuming you meant me.

I used to do mainly sealed as i always did prefab before i really got into it.

Memphis pr was my main subs and some mojos. Sealed you may feel it a bit, but not as much as a ported enclosure.

Like i said i hear more boom boom then i feel compared to ported where you feel bunch more vibrations with lower boomy sounds.

I used to build boxes back in the early 2000s. I've always liked a ported sound better. I don't really like the punch I would get in a sealed box but I think I'm going to go with a sealed box and try it out again. If I don't like it, I'll build a ported box later.

Just do the ported from the start, why waste time lol. No need to look back.

Or go with a driver you can fit ported. Dayton Ref HO Rss315ho in 1.5cuft@32 with 14-15sqin port per cube would be a good setup. Would get pretty **** loud on 600-800w rms and sound good doing it.

I experimented over the summer with sealed and ported and sealed sounds nice if output is not your main goal. Ported has much better output but lacks the tight quality sound that the sealed provided. Id go ported though, the benefits are greater with ported versus sealed

Really, it's all in the box. A properly designed ported box WILL have that tight bass sealed boxes provide. It's hard to screw up a sealed box, so you'll have fairly constant results. That's probably where the myth of sealed offering better Sq comes into play.

Obviously the design of the box will dictate sound but according to "my" experimenting , the sealed have always had less output .

In a situation where space is tight, sometimes you come out better to step down to a smaller size sub. My 2 xd8's in 1.5cuft@32hz will get louder(by around 3db) and dig lower than my old SQ hds212 in 2.5cuft@32hz on the same amount of power. Why would one go with a 12 sealed in 1.5cuft when they could go with a pair of 8's and get louder and sound better
