To deploy or not deploy?

I've been in the army reserve for over 2.5 years. I was put in a training battalion that is non-deployable and can only be 'cherry picked' out for another unit.

A unit above me is deploying to Kuwait this coming October, and the commander has offered me a spot on the battle roster to go.

I'm currently a full time college student with aspirations to commission once I am done, and then pursue my Masters in Teaching for when I'm done with the military.

Thoughts? Suggestions from those who have deployed?

On a side note, deployment is **** good $$$$$

sounds like you have way more going for you, if you werent planning on deploying then i wouldnt. IE you should have things ready to go. if youre full time college then i wouldnt just up and leave but i say follow what your heart says.

well the fact that it is very hard for me to deploy bugs me. The 3 other friends that I joined with have all deployed by now and 2 are already back. I want to know what the sandbox is like before I have to go over there and lead men.

I've also heard that Kuwait is a cake deployment, and I should be able to continue some online classes while I'm there.

The internet there is very slow, also you wont have much free time to do online classes anyway. During a deployment you can expect to be working 12-14 hr shifts depending on your job on top of doing pt everyday. If you are going for the money it is not worth it.

Kuwait should be cake!! I was in Iraq in 04 and got sent to Kuwait for R and R and I'm telling u food was awesome, Internet centers, gyms, and recreational activities. But then in the marines we always get stuck in some crappy places so when we'd go to an army or air force base it was outstanding to us. But why not, you will get more $ from gi bill once u come back too! The reserve gi bill is not too great if u ask me but it's something.

Stay in school.

Well if you're gonna join the military you have to remember one thing... you can die tomorrow or lose an arm or leg or face. An old dorm friend of mine went to Afghanistan driving the fuel supply truck/protection convoy, their vehicle hit an IED while he was on top being the gunner and he almost got crushed when their vehicle flipped over. Sure you'll get paid well and have good benefits but there's always a chance of getting KIA or permanently disabled.

Plus what's your hippy-looking arse doing in the military??? Hahaha...

Why would you ask CA.com for advice on how to live your life? It's only good for CA and relationship advice (ie:should i pee in her butt?) //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif
