So, a friend of mine has a JL 12w7 and the surround is completely ripped off. Said it takes power, but of course the coil will scrape. He said he would sell it to me for $100. Will it be worth getting it and having it reconed,or make a frank? I'm running an MTX 9500 now. To break this down easier..

Which takes more power to push hard(everyone seems to say something different)?

Which would sound better in a 2.25 cf vented enclosure?

And, does anyone here recone or frank them up for a good price?

You will never like that W7 in a vented enclosure after having had a MTX 9500 in a vented enclosure. If you can get a cheap recone:

Buy it

Recone it

Resale it

???

Profit

JL charges like $200 to recone them. And I think they are the only ones that can. Since you can get a good used one for $300 or a JL warrentied one for $300 the choice is yours. I would keep the MTX

12 w7 can be reconed using better parts decently cheap. it has a 3'' coil

Will probably let it go, my 9500 is good enough for me. Figured it would sound better in a ported box than the w7, just wanted input, thanks!

New question, power hx2 15 with a U.S. Amps Xterminator XT4000D. Never owned a US amps so unsure of their clarity and power, and hands on info? Looked up specs, not shabby, but i like how clean my JL amp sounds.
