To any drummers

Oh, I won't do double bass, I'll just do the notes with my pedal, while working on my other stuff. Dethklok's drummer does 16th notes, so it may be tricky. Which is why I'll practice Offspring and Pink Floyd first.

funky, thanks for the post about the book. I'll look into it. I remember a lot of rudiments from marching band, but they have gotten fuzzy over the years.

I like a lot of drummers from a lot of bands. Neil Peart, Portnoy, Bonham, Ulrich, etc.

Their names escape me, but In Flames and Children of Bodom's drummers manage to do more than just snare and cymbal stuff. I HATE when drummers rely solely on just blast beats or when speed is seen as a way to be good.

Being good can include going fast, but the opposite isn't true at all.

The drummer from Meshuggah isn't too shabby either //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif.

I had a nice singerland set from back in the day. I was getting good, but was just from listening to a song and trying to copy it. And practice, practice, practice! After awhile it will come to you.

I wish I could get into drumming again, but living in an apartment complex FTL! Then again, my neighbors rent a garage there and use it for their band, lol! I hate them fuggers though. Kept me up many nights!

this is how i learned.

get a solid beat going on the bass drum.

start with 4 whole notes on the snare and move up to 16 notes slowly by going faster every 4 measures

then just practice by listening to music and breaking everything down and playing very slowly and speeding up over time.

then get a double bass pedal and really rock out

Also a fan of Keith Moon. Iron Maiden, since they've had different.

I just like drummers that can do pretty complicated stuff, but able to keep a tangible beat and rhythm doing so.
