Tips with the Carpet?

So I have this big box sitting in my trunk over the Tire well, and it sticks up about an inch over the normal height. The box shape is like a wedge sort of, not entirely rectangle...

Now I'm having some problems figuring out how to get the carpet to go around it since it's higher... I was going to have a Rectangle board cut and wrap it in vinyl to cover the box, but that leaves the surrounding areas and carpet in question

Any suggestions?
