Tips / suggestions for box design in open air vehicle (Think - jeep with no roof)

Strongly considering redoing the box and subs in my Polaris Side by Side.

Looking for suggestions, tips, etc on how to make the most of it considering the limitations. It's open air, meaning there is no trunk or even a sealed off cabin. What is typically the best option for a box in a vehicle that doesn't seal up?

Subs typically go in the truck bed, strapped down. Currently I have 3 Type-R 8's in Alpine's suggested ported box, subs and port facing forward, a few inches from the front bed wall. Works pretty **** well but I know there is potential for more.

Current box is ~2.2 cu ft NET. Could probably get 3 cu ft NET without giving up space for the beer cooler in the bed.

For those that don't know what a side by side is, here's a picture of a stock one

Only suggestion... Get rid of the vehicle haha... JK JK... to be honest I'd treat it like DJ speakers. As we all know, DJ subs are played in open air environments. The one thing I noticed between my DJ systems and car sysems is that 18" DJ sub boxes with waaaaaayyyyyyy smaller than car boxes. That being said, the car boxes would hit the low end notes 100 times better, but mid to high bass notes sounded great. So, what I'm trying to say is treat your build like a DJ setup and make the box slightly smaller to project notes a little bit further and harder.

Did any of the ^^^^^^^^^ make any sense? Probably not.

I like doing down firing boxes in applications like that. never done a side by side but done lots of wrangler soft tops.
Port down, subs down? I've never done a down firing sub install.

Looking to maximize output. Not concerned with hiding the subs from being visible or protected from rain etc. Usually pull the box out if it starts raining.
