Tips for driving a standard better?

Well here is a trick, Put it in first, let go of the clutch very slowly, once you feel the force moving the car, then ease in the gas. Also just hit reverse and 1st, reverse and 1st, reverse, and first going back and forth untill you get it. Usually when you find that friction point you are all good. When your at the friction point thats when you ease into the gas.

I usually feather the gas while letting the clutch out slowly until the car starts to move, then continue with a little more gas, a little less clutch untill the clutch is all the way out.

yeah this is what i do.

main point is to get use to where the friction point is.

i dirve a 98 toyota corolla ce and i dont use the clutch when going from 1 to 2 or 2 to 3 and so one(only when upshifting). and there really is no need to for a couple of reasons.

first off the more you use the clutch the more it wears out not using the clutch solvs this.

second almost all standard cars have syncrinsed gears(automatic cars have it as well) this causes all the forward gears to move regardless of what gear you are it. so if you are in first and are at 3000rpm while traviling at 10mph that means 2nd gear is also spinning but since it has a higher gear ratio it is spinning at a speed that keeps the car going 10mph.

next time you drive try not using the clutch when upshifting.

dont try this when down shifting unless you know what you are doing.
