Tinsel Slap?

<-- Yes, that's me.
I'm not sure exactly if this is my problem - but I'm fairly sure it is. I'm using an IB setup between my trunk/cabin, and at higher volumes, around the RMS rating of it for free air, I start hearing what sounds identical to the tinsels hitting the bottom of cone. I'm guessing this is hitting the mechanical limits of the sub - however, is there any way to fix it? Modifications of any sort? I seem to be able to get more volume easily out of the subwoofer - and no damage has been occurring, I did this while watching, very gradually taking it up in volumes. I'm taking a DMM to it to find exact wattages going to it when the noise starts. Subwoofer is an Infinity Perfect 10.1.

Basically, can this be fixed?

Some people put felt on the cone right above the tinsels to keep this sound down....a lot of high xmax drivers have this problem
That's a decent idea there. The sound is quite annoying, and in the IB setup, is heard quite clearly on bass heavy songs. I'm thinking just some gorilla glue or so, with some thin felt to dampen it?
