OK so i have been looking at A LOT of subs recently and i think i am looking in the wrong place. i feel like all of the subs i have been looking at are going to be way under utilized in the setup i am looking for.

What are some subs that i should be looking at for a daily driver setup. i drive 1.5+ hours one way everyday. 1+ hour of that is spent sitting almost completely still in traffic. then the exact same back home at the end of the day.

i listen to everything.

power is coming from an Avionixx CXD 2800M that is 600@4, 1000@2, or 1300@1.

this will be in a 2004 Grand Prix GT trunk. it has split folding seats so during my commute at least one side of the rear seats will be folded down.

Need to keep total space required for the box to 34Wx20Dx17H or less

size must be kept to 15" or less.

2 subs is an option for 12" or smaller anything larger will have to be a single sub.

Don't concern yourself with my budget. if i don't have the money on hand to get what i decide from the recommendations i will wait until i have the funds.

Ported or sealed?

Please list your recommendations in the format below

there in lies the problem. i loooove feeling the low, booming, drawn out, feel it in your bones, bass notes but i need something that is going to also perform well on the higher notes. the diamond 10 i have now hits the lows pretty well for a 10 but there are a lot of notes in some of my classic rock and alternative stuff that i know should be a bass note but instead just sounds like a flat "plunk" lol

something i think will also help me make a decision is to get a range of test tones from 20Hz up at 5Hz increments and see what the lowest frequency is that i am willing to sacrifice. At this point i think i could be ok not hitting 20Hz but, i dont know how much difference there is from 20Hz to 25Hz yet to know if i am also willing to sacrifice the 25Hz. if you get what i am saying.

Sounds like you need a stronger motor sub, but you also may want to check your cross over frequencies... Box is very important too! Lol. So many factors when it comes to getting that wide range of bass notes. I would say go with 2 10s or 3 8s. 3 SA-8s, especially the V2s would be incredible and play a wide range of notes.

Unless you play some really slowed down music, you don't need to be hitting 25 hz, and you will have to tune low to hit 25 hz and will sacrifice your upper end. It will take a really good box design to get a flat response.

what is the average range of your run of the mill rap\hip hop? i certainly enjoy my decaf but it tends to get monotonous when i sit in traffic for 45-60 minutes.

maybe i am thinking 20Hz is a lot higher than it really is.

@The_Grimy_One gimme a minute and i will try to elaborate on the cross freqs and filters that are available in my current HU.

20 hz is really low. Most rap songs range in the 30s and 40s. the low note in put on by young jeezy is 28 hz.

20 hz is actually below human hearing on some people.

Your single 10 might seem low to you, but it's probably only going into the 30s.

ok well then i could probably be happy with 28-30 then.

here are the options i have in the EQ on my HU

sub filter: 80 120 160 -- currently set to 160

bass freq: 60 80 100 200 -- currently set to 80

Bass Q (not sure what exactly this is): 1 1.25 1.5 2 -- currently set to 1.5

Mid Freq: 500 1 1.5 2 -- currently set to 1.5

Mid Q: .5 .75 1 1.25 -- currently set to 1

Bass set to 0

Bass Boost turned off

Amp settings running at 4ohm currently

Gain: set to ~350w

LPF: ~100

Subsonic: 0

Center Freq: 0

Boost: 0

100hz lowpass? Maybe it's just me but that sounds a little high. I like to set below 80hz, your mids should be doing 80hz and above. What enclosure is your subwoofer in currently?

I agree, lower the low pass to 80 or so, and lower the sub filter to 120. Your box seems a bit big, but I have not looked up the specs. The bigger the sealed box, the lower the tuning. So the box could be the culprit.

ok will do that in a bit.
as for future plans i should go with 2 300w-500w 10s, 12s, or 3 8s?
Its worth a try. I mean I am no genius at this stuff, by any means. And I think for what you are going for 2 10s or 3 8s will be the most versatile. Only reason I like single sub set ups is because its simpler. I may switch my set up soon, so hit me up if you are interested in my 3 Cadence CVL 8s. The box will fit, and is tuned low so its very musical. Other than that I would say 2 GCON 10s would suit you very well. As for a single 12, go with something TC based or maybe an SSA ICON.
