Time Alignment T/A Delay, etc.

I still say there is more to TA than just using it to try and equalize pld. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

most cars I have heard (except for a handful) who had time alignment imaged FAR worse than my first big system car with no time alignment in the early 90's....Even back in the day when guys were using ODR I can only really recall about 5 or 6 who seemed to really use it correctly. There was a red 96 camaro that ran ODR, orion amps, ID horns IN the dash firing off the windsheild and a really trick install but it still bunched up. Best way to go about it though is position it then fine tune..seen and heard many cars that they through in speakers in easy locations then try using time alignment.

Dave Brooks F250, and Dave Edwards Camry make excellent use of TA. In Brooksie's truck, the left side is right in your face physically. Sound wise is whole different story though. The stage is to the outside of the mirrors, and mid hood depth wise. Dave's Camry uses the L3's in the stock dash locations. 90% of the people that get in his car start looking for the center channel. His center is so strong it, makes the width ,and seperation stand out even more. Depth is outstanding as well. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

TA is used to help correct phase shifts as well as path lengths. When you select speaker position IT should already center very decent and sound bigger than the car. The system when done should sound pretty much the same even when you lean to the extreme from each seated position. I had 3 cars that still imaged and staged pretty correct even from the back seat. I cant say that now because I have a 2 passenger little standard cab truck. I have heard MANY cars through the mid to late 90's, 2000, 2004, 2005, 2006 finals be it either USACI or IASCA. A lot of cars will do what Earl Z's car did and sound near perfect in 1 seated position then sound average from the other side. You may think that isn't a big deal but to me if I am at a stop light and I change levels from leaning or reach over to grab something on the other side I do not want the process of leaning over to sound like I am listening to 2 or 3 different cars.

you will never know if you don't......"Jump on in....the waters fine!!" //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I should compete. But I dont think I am good enough to compete just yet. Still learning the ins and out
when you think you know everything trust me u will eventually run into a judge who knows nothing and will rail you for it LOL hat is what it would seem like anyway.....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif Back in the day a few guys always competed and their vehicles were very bass heavy or couldn't pass the phase/ left right tests. At a show my installers shop did I even helped a guy pass the test in my class on favor of a couple of judges. I know you are not that novice but IF you wait until you think you know everything YOU won't like the criticisms. Only thing you control is your presentation after your book and tuning is done.

I know what you mean. When I went to finals and Regional's just to checkout and listen to all the cars. A lot, and I mean a lot of the cars didn't sound that good IMHO. It made me say in my what, "what were they thinking". There has been only a handful of cars that I actually liked. One of my favs was Andy Jones car, I heard it before i even found out he was a world champ.
