time alignment question

LOL
Ok so I'm trying to figure out the settings for my time alignment. It says to measure the distance from the farthest speaker and then measure the distance from the front left speaker and then plug those numbers into the equation to figure out the amout of delay...but they are component speakers so do I measure from the mid, the tweeter or in the middle of them?

Well, ideal situation is to set separate TC for every speaker, but if not possible, try to listen with TC set for the kicks, and also for the tweeter setup. Also try few values between these two. I can't go active with this deck right? I've got a six channel amp...but looking at the crossover settings all it has is h/p and l/p so hmmm I feel like a noob right now, lol...

Most people who go fully active don't use the crossovers on their amps. It's possible to use only the amp crossovers, but usually they have way too little control to do what you want.

I know nothing about time alignment though, sorry

It's ok spoon...you've helped me quite a bit as it is...so I just got my deck back from Alpine and popped it in..dialed in my t/a settings and wow, it actually works, the gift of gabs voice was totally centered...I am very happy...but now I know it's gonna sound like shit from the passenger seat even though I havn't sat there yet...if I was running rear speakers would I be able to make it sound good for both front seats? havn't really thought about this at all so the answer might be really obvious.

Do your passengers all know as much about SQ and what to listen for as you do? Do you usually even listen to music when you have passengers in the car?

Questions to ponder before tuning your system with passengers in mind //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

yeah it's usually just my girlfriend so you have a point there...although I do listen to music pretty much all the time

If I'm by myself I listen to music 100% of the time. If my girlfriend is in the car, or more than 1 passenger, usually there is no music. If I'm riding with just one person who isn't my girlfriend usually there is really really quiet music that you can easily talk over.

The only time I really ever turn it up with people in the car is when I'm being stupid and screwing around playing funny or just loud music so SQ isn't a bit factor that people will be critically listening for.

Anyway, I'm sure it won't sound horrible for everybody else, just not as good.

Yeah, exactly. Although I play music 100% of the time, just way quieter with other people in the car. I will have TA with my new deck I'm getting in a couple days, and was worried that it would sound crappy for the passenger. But honestly, I only know 2 or 3 people who could tell the difference, and only if I pointed it out.

Yeah for some reason I was thinking it would effect the volume but now after listening for a day I realize they won't notice because it's just the imaging being adjusted...it's a fvcker to change the settings though... I don't really know why the menus are setup the way they are...I'm sure i'l get used to it.

On my Alpine 9833 I can have 6 presets for TA settings. It just takes a couple menu button clicks to get to it, then I hold down a button to load the preset. I figure if I have passengers for a longer period of time I'll load up a preset with no TA, and turn it back on if I'm by myself. You might have something like this, have you read the manual to make sure?

Yeah I have two. So one will be either flat or for the passenger and the other will be for the driver. just have to figure out how to do it.
