check back for a new box build, havent done many ported but it looks like its going to be 3.65 cu.ft after displacements, (2) 6*26" ports. Ports will stick out of the box about 8" and it will get a fiberglass cover. some other ideas planned.

forgot to ask would it be better to run the ports along the side walls and account for end correction or run them inside and calculate it as 2 free ends? Ill sand out inside the pipe and the end will be close to 6" away from the back wall but not sure.

you can go ether way, wich ever way makes it easier to install. but if you run them along the wall you will have to at least silicone them in place, where it meets the wall from the start of the port to the end of the port, to keep the port from vibrating against the wall, and causing unwanted noise.

finally got to ending the procrastination, heres what an afternoon gets

i kept thinking about the design but fawk it time to build, still got some dilemmas but maybe u guys can help me out.

not in the pics are the back piece or the mid brace (bracing the ports/sides)

trapezoidal top, 36"top width, 31" bottom width

2 3/4"rings stacked on top add contour when its wrapped

im leaning towards recutting the base of the box, between the ports to accomodate a **** logo (sub is a 15"RE SE) So underneath the front end of the enclosure will be a sheet of plexi with the underside sprayed black, some leds pumping light into it, and a sandblasted **** logo

anoter anlgle so you can get an idea of the shape after its wrapped

at this point im just really concerned with the possibility of port noise, the ends inside the box have been sanded out so theres a fine lip. I wish I could flare them but I dont have a torch. And I hope it fits in the trunk when its all put together. Nothing is glued in the pics.

That and I only had 24" of room for the ports so im looking at a ~39 tune. The previous box was @ 34 and sounded awesome especially the lows.

i didnt do much bodywork on it but its pretty close to finished, sprayable poly filler builds so nicely and cuts work time by alot.

we bench tested it and didnt really like the results so the whole thing might get scrapped. 4 afternoons of work so its not really a huge loss

Its very boomy. 3.5 cubes @ 38 hrtz, it was definetly flatter and more enjoyable in 4.5 cubes @ 33

Maybe stuffing it with polyfill will give me better results?

i think it looks pretty cool....maybe if u have the room get some couplers and make the port longer. I was never a fan or such a high tuning.

give me some closer pics though, espicallyt of the front.

now if you need more internal volume in that same enclosure, so that the work you have done doesnt go to waste.

why dont you cut around on the side walls. leaving just four legs on each corner for suports and then, reenforce the inside of the fiberglass cosmetic panel with fiberglass to make it strong enogth to hold the pressure of the sub. and then cut the legs off, or leave them in as bracing. and see how you like the new bigger enclosure. it looks like you may gain a good cube. doing that.

there really wasnt too much work involved , the whole idea here was to get the curvature of a fiberglass box but to have an entire mdf enclosure underneath, and cut out alot of work in the process. I hate fiberglass, my least favorite product. Theres no fiberglass on the box, just polyester fleece and resin. Its solid though. I used evercoat resin, $40 a gallon but its the strongest ive used so far. At no point does it flex and it sounds solid when you knock on it. I figure the fleece wont crack since theres no pressure on it because of the mdf box underneath. I was going to fill the hollow area with foam but Ive had the box in the car bumping for the last couple of days and no cracks yet hew:

But i would say total time I have in the thing is 8~10 hours build time. I think I would rather build a new one than start hacking. Im thinking same design concept but at 4.5 cubes ~34. Youre on the right track though. What I shouldve done was put the the mdf sides against the trunk edges, then cut a rectangular top piece instead of a trapezoid. Im so dumb.

Couplers was my first thought too, that would be cool, nice screw on extensions that bring it down to like 34hrtz. But theres like an inch of space between the port end and the hatch. sucks!

im going to try to get around to painting this week. then ill post the close ups.
