This "argument" isn't about what YOU want to listen to, man. It's about you using a broad, sweeping statement to encompass an entire genre. Opinions are one thing, but we're not arguing opinions. We're arguing about a stupid comment that you made and refuse to fess up to.

While that's not necessarily untrue, the ignorance lies behind the inference you are making. Even an entire culture saying something is right or wrong doesn't make it a fact. It is still a subjective opinion, however much it is a collective subjective opinion.

Just because the whole world says the type of clothing you wear is important doesn't make the argument valid for you.

You are giving me more hints that suggest there is NO way you could possibly be a philosophy major and display this level of what has been referred to as "the metaphysical sickness."

Black Metal isn't popular in North America, so many people disregard it or poke fun. In Europe the scene is alive, and many of the people that follow it are more than just fans. It's a lifestyle choice. Do I agree with the killings and church burnings? Hell no. But I can appreciate the music itself. And as a fan of punk rock, I can sort of relate to the diy attitude that many of the founding black metal bands believed in as well.
