So i have $150 to spend on subs, what should i get, 2 10's or 1 12??

let me know what brands

(willing to go to $200 on the subs.....

Want the loudest possible combination of the two choices i listed above... (the subs will be in a ported box)

thanks for the help, open to any brands......

well actually this is for my friend, (i have 2 12 kicker CVX's, bump hella good) this is his budget that i helped him with

Deck (with ipod hookup) $130

Dynamat (or eqivelant material) $80

Wires $80

Subs (1 12 or 2 10's) $150-200

Amp $400-500

Caps (for power draw) $100

Box (ported) $100

This is what he and i came up with..... the size of the box does not matter, right now he and i are looking for the sub, then the amp, and then we will go from there....

Scrap the cap idea and buy a couple 12" CVX's and a Hifonics BXi-1606D. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Build yourself 4.5 cu. ft. box tuned to 32-34Hz. Use the money you saved by buying the BXi-1606D and search the classifieds. They always have wire and HU's in them decently priced. He should be satisfied. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

crutchfield has a sale on blaupunk vw1200's a PAIR for 200 shipped. They are 1200 rms a PIECE.
Power handling capability alone is a very poor indicator of how well any given driver will perform in real-world use. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

To the OP ~

We still need to know how much power will be available and at what resistance to be better able to make educated suggestions as to what might work well within your stated budget...

I think you need to drop the cap and cut some money from amp funds.

Get him a Hifonics 2006D or PA a3000db, cheap and reliable.

Save yourself over $250-300 by buying that and dropping the cap.

Buy a nice pair of RE SX's or L7s or somethin

L7's = Expensive square version of CVX's //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif ..Not a route I'd take for a budget build.

thanks for all the help, how would those RE cost??

Price of 2 tens, price of 1 12??

The power of the amp is dictated by the power rating of the sub, no real limit, he wants to stay firm on the prices though..

I said the same thing, drop the caps and do a dual battery setup, he does not want to spend that kind of money (go figures:))

What does everyone think about the RE's and the hifonics amp??

Good, Bad??

You can still drop the cap and not upgrade batts //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif I recommend Mach5audio's MAW line for budget friendly setups. For around your budget you can have 2 tens or 1 twelve..hell if you have room 2 fifteens. From what I hear they are loud and sound pretty good too. I only have experience with the MJ-18, but I wouldnt hesitate to try the other lines after having it. Check em out at Mach5audio.com. Check their forum for reviews and such. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

You're not going to get two RE SX's for under $200. I doubt you'll even find ONE on ebay for under $200. If you want those, search the classifieds. Scratch the second battery, too. Buy an extra 10ft. or so of 1/0awg and do your 'Big 3' upgrade. You should be okay for 1500 RMS.

And Mach5Audio is significantly cheaper than RE.
