I am sure you are headed this way to try and say that without the axial channels the cooling setup doesn't work - but the fact is, it does work quite well or we wouldn't be doing it. We use a gap spacing that allows sufficient air flow without cooling channels - this works for us to get our target T/S specs as well.

Fi does what they do for a reason too - Scott wouldn't take the time to make the channels in his design if they didn't do what he wanted.

So... I'm not sure what your point is. And to answer it directly in case you cannot infer - no, we don't do added machining.
