Thinking about buying a chopper this spring, what do you think of this one?

I would never spend 20 grand on a bike, but that is just me.
Do you need to spend that much? What are you trying to do with this bike, stand out in the crowd, or just ride to enjoy the open road and hit up some local bike runs?

If I was to look into a bike, I wouldn't spend more than 10g's, especially where I live, being I can only ride in the late spring, summer, early fall.

Come to think of it, I probably wouldn't spend that anyway.
I think $10k on something antique would make a much different statement: //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I love the /2's...no way I could afford one right now, though.

What's your definition of nice? Some 10 foot long penis extension that has every piece of chrome that money can buy hanging off of it? I'll pass.
There are a ton of custom parts on that bike that had to either be made or made to work. Plus, it'll blow any Big Dog away that you line up next to it.
Hughjass, when you say built do you mean welded frame etc. did you have a frame and had to locate parts. Or was it a package you had to assemble yourself? A package i'd have to put together sounds like something i'd try.

The frame was a one-off that I bought from a guy. I cut the seat tube out of it and built the battery tray so the battery would lay on its side over the ******. I also added the curved gussets in the rear triangle and a gusset that goes from the backbone to the downtube.

I built the oil tank and mounted it vertical behind the battery.

The gas tank was bought, but I changed it as well. I cut out the filler cap and moved it up about 4 inches. I also added flush mounts to the bottom of it and built the rear mount.

The rear fender was chopped and made to fit and I built the fender struts.

I built the license plate/tail light mount.

I shaved the fender mount off of the front end and machined spacers to fit the 21" wheel to the Buell front end.

I also made seat pan out of fiberglass and had it covered.

There are a lot more little things that I did to it as well.

The motor is from a Buell Lightning with thunderstorm heads and Zipper's cams.

Meh, not my bag either, but I can at least see spending that much on something like that.

20K for a chopper............not so much.

Plus choppers really are not ment for riding much. I want something I want to ride a lot!

When I was 19, I had a Honda Hurricane 1100 and put like 10k miles on it in a year, lol and I only rode a few months due to the weather in Ohio.

I did sell it a year later, due to me laying it down on the interstate.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif

To be fair, I was coming off an off-ramp and hit a huge..........I mean huge pot hole and blew my tire, bent my forks and went head first over the handle bars. Thank god I was only doing 20 plus. I was just about to get on her, lol! Enough to make me think...........hey, this bike thing at 19 might just not be for me right now, lol! Granted it was a very random thing to happen. Just bad luck, which if it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck at all.

By the way, I am 32 and have the itch to ride again, lol!
I want a cruiser though now, not a streetbike.
I know what you mean. I've got an old Shovelhead that I putt around on, too. I did a little 800 mile trip up through New Mexico on it this past summer and had a blast. We just camped out and really had no schedule. It was great.

Don't waste your money on some gay-*** Big Dog billet barge. They won't hold their value and $30,000 for something you won't ride everyday is just stupid. Build your own. I built this one 2 years ago and after it was all said and done, I had less than $4,000 in it out of my pocket. Plus, you won't see another one like it.

I have basic metal skills at best, but I learned a lot along the way.

sick bike, but i bet its bumpy as hell to ride huh? hardtail FTL

18-25K for a chopper? Man, you gotta be crazy to spend that on something that you can't take credit for the build. Besides, it looks just like everyone else's chopper. If you dont build it, it's not a custom. This one cost me 4 grand to build, from swap meet parts. Ridden in the rain (gasp!) and has been from Florida to Vermont several times.
