Thinking about buying a chopper this spring, what do you think of this one?

Don't waste your money on some gay-*** Big Dog billet barge. They won't hold their value and $30,000 for something you won't ride everyday is just stupid. Build your own. I built this one 2 years ago and after it was all said and done, I had less than $4,000 in it out of my pocket. Plus, you won't see another one like it.

I have basic metal skills at best, but I learned a lot along the way.

What's your definition of nice? Some 10 foot long penis extension that has every piece of chrome that money can buy hanging off of it? I'll pass.

There are a ton of custom parts on that bike that had to either be made or made to work. Plus, it'll blow any Big Dog away that you line up next to it.

The paint work does seem a little out of place, but it's got the whole homebrew ratbike aesthetic going on, which does have its own appeal I think //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Thumbs up on the Clubmans bars, too, prefer those over crazy ape hangers any day //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Chopper's are a bit too radical for my taste. When I got my bike what I truly wanted was a Victory, but they were way above what I could get approved for.

What I would do is find local dealerships and go visit in person before looking at the custom shops. Almost any dealership can take a stock harley, honda, yamaha whatever they sell and order them custom built to however you like. When you goto a custom shop your paying a whole lot in labor.

I will agree with the other guy about Amen customs. I forgot about them, my stepdad built one for a guy about 5 years ago. Very nice bike, all purple with green flames and glow in the dark eye balls i think, i havnt seen it in forvever. But that was a show bike/daily rider. Big dgos do not hold their value at all. If you want the best value on a bike youll need to buy a kit. Some of the smaller bike shops and places that work on anything will put them together for you.

What bike to choose is an incredibly personal decision outside of seeking input on reliability and mechanical related issues. One man's "gay-*** billet barge" is another man's $4,000 home built bike. You might as well insult his mom or wife...

truth, id rock that home built waaay before a lame *** big dog.( which are rattle boxes that fall apart, make sure to loctite all the bolts) Op it wouldnt take long at all to piece together and buile something yourself, if you had the money it could be done before the winters over.

I would never spend 20 grand on a bike, but that is just me.

Do you need to spend that much? What are you trying to do with this bike, stand out in the crowd, or just ride to enjoy the open road and hit up some local bike runs?

If I was to look into a bike, I wouldn't spend more than 10g's, especially where I live, being I can only ride in the late spring, summer, early fall.

Come to think of it, I probably wouldn't spend that anyway.

Nothing wrong with building your on bike to learn something new. I am all for that, but some people don't want to take the time to learn something new, or just don't have the time to do it and just want to buy it and ride it.

There are plenty of companies out there that are reliable, without having to build your own bike.

I personally like the look of the built bike, but not everyones cup of tea.
