Think you know your shit? Enter here.

For the last 2 months my right tweeter has been cutting in and out (VC100's), and I haven't changed a thing in my wiring. I'm running a two way active set-up with a 9855 as the processing, an old school Kenwood for my mids, and an old school Autotek for my tweeters.
My buddy's VC100's do the same thing, but he has a 9835.

So today I pull in my driveway, and EVERYTHING cuts out except the left side tweeter, then makes a crackling/scratching noise and cuts in and out...today was the first time it did that...

Any ideas?

I checked my power wire at the battery, and it has a solid connection.

Oh, after everything cut out, the head unit completely shut off and wouldn't turn back on.
I haven't read the rest of the thread but i had this problem with vc-100 tweeters and i think i figured out the problem. how's your tweeter mounted? are you using the little screw hole in the back? if so, try to untight it a little. Seems like the screw might be touching something inside like in my case... It was working fine till i mounted the tweeters //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/verymad.gif.3f39c5c2fd57527b671fad3efdfac756.gif This might be your problem too

It might be the rca ground inside your amp. My passenger side tweeter and mid used to cut in and out and sound distorted and make a cracling noise at random times. Eventually I sent the amp in to db-r and he replaced the rca input ground stalk and I haven't ran into that problem since.

Yah I had the same issue, it was my RCA's on the back of my HU the RCA's are too close to a metal bar behind my HU and the the left RCA was practically burned out, check it out

You could possibly have a short-to-ground. When you turn the volume up, does your HU cut off and then cut back on? Start with the volume low. When you turn the volume up, that'll increase current draw and if you have a short-to-ground, your HU will cut out and back on over and over.

Primarily, check your HU wiring harness that plugs into the vehicle's harness to ensure there are no exposed wiring coming in contact with any bare metal in the HU console's housing.

Second, check your speaker wiring. Disconnect one side from the amp and see if you get the same effects. For example, remove speaker wires from the left tweeter and see if you are getting the problem. If not, reconnect that side and then unhook the other. This way, you can isolate which side is giving you problems. Once you have determined, which side is the problem side, then you can check the speaker wiring with a fine-tooth comb.

Hope this helps...
